Kale leaned against the turnbuckle, his arms folded across his chest as he stared at his opponent across the ring. The roo was wearing a pair of black MMA gloves similar to his opponent's, and was clad in a white, sleeveless work-out shirt and black shorts. His opponent was clad similarly, only his clothes were grey instead of white and black.
Kale had met Paul only a few moments ago, the pit bull coming into the gym and seeing Kale working a punching bag with the pair of MMA gloves that Ross had gotten him for Christmas. He'd merely stood back around a dozen feet, watching the roo gently jab the bag, his eyebrows jumping upward appreciatively when he saw the roo smash a hard kick into the bag, sending it swinging almost to a 90-degree angle. It was at that point that he'd introduced himself.

"I'd hate to be anyone that got in a fight with you, buddy," he'd said as he walked over to Kale as the roo took a short break to get his breath back. Kale had looked over at him, a small smile quirking around his lips.

"I'm more a boxer, to be honest. Can fight in other styles, but that's what I prefer. I've done MMA fights a few times with a friend, though."

"Ah," Paul had replied. "Interesting. I fight a lot myself. It's kind of my job, to be honest, hehe…" he'd rubbed the back of his head with his hand.

"Your job? What are you, a professional?"

"No, but I'm with…let's just say a group. It's not very safe, we get into plenty of fights, but I can hold my own most of the time."

Kale's eyebrows had jumped up. "Really? Care to test that?"

Paul had merely grinned and a few seconds later he and Kale had been in the ring. Paul certainly looked the part of a fighter, anyway. He was mostly snow white, with two large brown spots on him, one on his left shoulder, the other around his left eye. His icy blue eyes watched Kale calmly, and he could tell that the pit bull was examining him just as closely. Paul also had a pair of parallel scars that ran diagonally across his muzzle, which Kale assumed had come from some sort of bladed weapon or claws of some kind.
"So," he said. "I'm ready when you are."

Paul grinned. "Was waiting for you to say that." He brought his fists up in front of him in a regular orthodox stance, advancing out of his corner as Kale mimicked him, the roo closing in on the pit bull. Both circled one another for a bit, watching each other closely.

Kale finally made the first move, tossing a pair of left jabs that Paul easily blocked, then countered with a right straight aimed at Kale's nose. The kangaroo ducked under the punch and tried for a left uppercut to his chin, which was dodged via Paul jerking his head backwards and taking a few steps back, his bare paws thumping on the canvas. Both circled one another, each watching their opponent warily. Paul then took the initiative, charging at Kale and throwing a hard left hook at the roo's jaw. Kale ducked under the punch and let it whoosh over his head, then tried for a right hook at Paul's ribs. The pit bull managed to get his free hand in position to block it and took the opportunity to back off, circling Kale again as he danced on his footpaws. Kale straightened and backed away, looking for an opening as he circled with Paul. "I gotta say," the roo said as they kept circling. "You're pretty quick."

"Thanks," Paul replied as he darted in again, tossing two left jabs at Kale's guard. "You're not so bad yourself!"

Kale ducked under the punches and tried a sweep with his right leg. Paul jumped to avoid it, landing back on the canvas on his feet. As Kale straightened he tried a right hook at Paul's jaw, only to have the pit bull easily jerk his head out of the way and land a kick to his leg that made Kale gack and jerk backwards and allowed Paul to swing a left hook straight flush into Kale's cheek. The roo's head snapped to the side, his cheek being dragged along by Paul's fist. Kale snarled as the eye above his impacted cheek turned to look at Paul, the roo suddenly spinning to throw one large foot at Paul's temple. The pit bull saw it coming and ducked, though Kale dodged the left straight that he hurled at the roo's stomach, backing away as the two separated again. Kale's cheek remained slightly cratered from Paul's punch, and he rubbed it as he smiled at the dog. "Not bad. I'm not done yet, though."

"Good," Paul replied. "I'm just getting warmed up!"

He came in again, throwing a kick at Kale's jaw. The roo ducked under the punch and the next thing Paul knew his eyes were widening and his muzzle was open, drool flying from it as a hard left uppercut from Kale slammed into his gut. His mouth was then forcefully shut by a right uppercut to the chin, sending more drool flying into the air and making him stumble backwards. Paul recovered astonishingly quickly, one white foot flashing upwards and slamming into Kale's chin, knocking the roo's head upward and making him stagger backwards a few paces. The roo rubbed his chin, panting lightly.

"That's more like it!" Paul said, grinning. He growled playfully and motioned Kale on, the roo obliging and feinting a right straight at Paul's muzzle. The dog fell for it and ducked, meeting Kale's knee as it slammed into his chin. The blow forced him to straighten, allowing a right hook from Kale to smash into his cheek. Even as Paul's cheek rolled up from the blow he spun, throwing a hard kick at Kale's face. Unfortunately for him, Kale had thrown a kick at the same time, aiming to hit Paul as his face came back to face him. Both kicks smashed into the combatant's faces at the same time, rolling up the skin on their cheeks and sending them both sliding backwards a few feet. They looked up at one another, panting heavily but at the same time grinning fiercely.

"Give up yet?" Kale asked as he got his hands back up into a ready stance.

"Not a chance!" Paul replied.

They went at one another again. Kale blocked a left straight on his arm and then spun, smashing Paul in the face with an elbow. Paul used the roo's close proximity to him to dig a right hook into Kale's liver. The roo let out a choking noise, and Paul managed to back off a few steps to slam a kick into the underside of Kale's chin, sending the roo's head snapping upward and making him have to take a few steps backwards. The roo backed away, rubbing his jaw.

He wasn't lying, then…He's good. Maybe too good for me to beat…Doesn't mean that I can't try, though!

He raced back in, Paul throwing a left hook at his jaw that Kale ducked under, slamming a straight left into Paul's exposed belly. The pit bull's cheeks puff out and he was knocked backwards a bit, though he countered with a gut shot of his own by digging his knee into Kale's stomach. The roo coughed with the blow spinning abruptly and slamming an elbow into Paul's face, knocking the pit bull to the side. The pit bull staggered somewhat, then turned to Kale, his smile becoming extremely feral. His blue eyes seemed to glow, and he ran back at Kale without hesitation.

Kale's head was smashed to the side by a hard left straight, his cheek being cratered even as he snarled and spun, backfisting Paul across the face. The pit bull fought back with another powerful blow, sparking a brief period of the fight where neither one even attempted to dodge. Loud cracks sounded through the air as powerful blows landed on each combatant, sending sweat, drool, and blood flying through the air. Finally, both landed a punch to the cheek at once, each standing their ground and grinding their fists into the other's face before getting knocked backwards. Both staggered backwards, breathing heavily as they stared at each other.

Paul suddenly grinned at him, seemingly back from the berserker-level hostility that had driven him the last few blows of the light. "O…okay…I…I think w-we've both…had en…enough, d-don't…you?"

Kale grinned back, nodding. "Y…yeah. I'm good with a…tie."

Panting heavily, both sank to the canvas on their rumps, rubbing their injuries. Paul looked at Kale. "I gotta say," he began. "You're really good."

"Thanks…though I think you had the upper hand for most of the fight," Kale replied with another grin.

They sat there for a while, panting. Both were heavily bruised and battered from the fight, a few spots of blood from split lips or cuts from knuckles leaking small trickles of red down both fighters' bodies.

There was a soft squeaking noise and the door opened, Paul and Kale looking over at it. A wolf had come in, one with golden eyes and two-tone blue fur. He was wearing a brown shirt and a tan jacket with blue jeans, and gave a little smile as he took in the state of the two fighters. Paul smiled back and looked over at Kale. "Friend of mine. I guess that's my cue to go."

Kale nodded and extended a hand, Paul shaking it and grinning. "Nice fight. Hope we can take it all the way next time."

Paul nodded. "You bet." He stood up, tipping Kale a small salute. "See ya."

Kale nodded back as Paul left the ring, gathered his stuff up, and left.
Okay, here's a little story that came into my head a few days ago, and I was just waiting for the opportunity to write it. The Paul character isn't mine, he's the main character of this webcomic that I've picked up. [link] <---He's in that one, scroll down until you see a big paw print splattered on it. He's the dog standing next to it.

So anyway, Paul isn't mine, belongs to the guy that owns him, yadda yadda yadda. Also, go check out the comic! It's awesome 8D
